A roof lantern in Drenthe is ordered from DagLichtDesign directly at the factory in Barneveld. In short: made to measure, a quote within 24 hours, a lead time from 2 weeks after approval, and collection or delivery on an agreed date. Your own contractor fits the roof lantern.

Meppel is about 90 km from the factory, Assen about 145 km. The province is spaciously laid out: many detached homes, bungalows, farmhouses and post-war districts with plenty of greenery. It is these types of home that determine which roof lantern fits most often here.

Roof lantern in Drenthe: bungalow with a flat roof

In many Drenthe villages and in the villa districts around the larger towns you find bungalows from the 1960s and 1970s. Single-storey, a flat roof and often one or more plastic rooflight domes in the hall, bathroom or kitchen. After so many years those domes have often yellowed and insulate poorly. With a bungalow this matters even more, because all rooms are on the ground floor and the middle of the house can often only get light through the roof.

A mono-pitch roof lantern in place of the dome is then the alternative. The aluminium frame comes in any RAL colour, with HR++ double glazing as standard and triple glazing as an option, and connects watertight to EPDM or bitumen. The difference between the two solutions is explained in roof lantern or rooflight dome.

  • More view outside than through a plastic dome
  • HR++ double glazing as standard, triple glazing optional
  • Water via the frame profile to the existing gutters
  • Rated to NEN standards for snow and wind

Home zones and post-war districts

Emmen is known for its home zones from the 1960s and 1970s, such as in Emmerhout and Angelslo: terraced and low-rise housing around car-free courts with lots of greenery. Assen and Hoogeveen also grew strongly after the war. With these homes, an extension with a mono-pitch roof lantern is often the simplest way to brighten the living room.

In a home with a low ceiling height, light from above often helps more than an extra window in the wall, because it spreads more evenly across the room. A mono-pitch roof lantern of 2 or 3 metres is always in stock, which keeps planning simple.

Farmhouses, barns and carports on large plots

The Drenthe villages built around their village greens and open fields have old farmhouses with a large thatched or tiled roof. In the countryside plots are large, and next to the house there is often a barn, garage or carport. A roof lantern in a garage or carport turns such a space into a bright workspace or hobby room.

For an unheated garage or barn, HR++ double glazing is more than enough. If the space becomes a heated workshop or studio, it pays to include the insulation of the whole space, not just that of the roof lantern.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about Drenthe

Can I have my roof lantern delivered in Drenthe?

Yes, on an agreed date. From the south of Drenthe, collecting in Barneveld is also feasible; Meppel is about 90 km away. See roof lantern delivery in the Netherlands.

Will the roof lantern fit the opening of my old rooflight dome?

Sometimes, but a roof lantern is usually larger than a dome. If you want to enlarge the opening, the joists have to be adapted. A contractor or structural engineer assesses whether the roof allows it.

Which frame colour suits a bungalow?

Popular choices are RAL 7016 (anthracite), RAL 9005 (jet black) and RAL 9016 (traffic white). For a bungalow with dark window frames, choose the same shade so the roof lantern sits calmly in the roofline. Bicolour, different inside and out, is also possible.

How do I prevent condensation under the roof lantern?

Condensation forms when warm, humid air meets a cold surface. HR++ and especially triple glazing keep the inside of the glass warmer, which limits condensation. Good ventilation helps most; the knowledge base explains more.
