Hipped roof lantern

From €3,481

A hipped roof lantern has four glass slopes that rise from all sides towards the middle. On a square opening they meet in a point, which is why this type is also called a pyramid roof lantern. On a rectangular opening a short ridge forms at the top. Either way, daylight comes in from every angle, all day long.

It is our most elaborate roof type, with prices from €3,481. We make it for rooms where light plays the leading role: a large extension, an open kitchen, a studio or a practice room. As standard up to 9 m² of glass in one piece, larger with segmentation.

Specifications

  • Up to 9 m² of glass in one piece
  • Daylight from four directions
  • Drainage concealed in the bars
  • Thermally broken aluminium, any RAL colour
  • HR++ standard, triple glazing optional

Hipped roof lantern with four glass slopes above an open kitchen

Why a hipped roof lantern?

With a mono-pitch or gable, light comes mainly from one or two sides. A hipped roof catches light from four directions. The room below gets even light, without a harsh shadow side. You notice this most in rooms where you work or cook. The view from inside is different too: you look up into a glass lantern rather than at a sloping plane. Even in a room enclosed on three sides, such as an extension between two neighbouring houses, a hipped roof brings light right into the corners.

  • Large extension with an open living area
  • Open kitchen with a central island
  • Studio or workspace where even light matters
  • Practice room or home office

Dimensions and segmentation

Up to 9 m² of glass we make the hipped roof lantern in one piece. For a larger opening we divide the glass into segments. The bars needed for this are concealed. That way even a large hipped roof keeps clean lines.

In your request, give the dimensions of the roof opening and whether it is square or rectangular. A square opening gives a true pyramid, a rectangular one gets a short ridge on top. Help with measuring in measuring up for a roof lantern.

Pitch and concealed drainage

The hipped roof also has a standard pitch of 8°. Water drains well through the drainage concealed in the bars and hip profiles, so you see no separate gutters on the glass and the build-up stays in proportion to the roof. More about the pitch in the right pitch for a roof lantern.

Comfortable light under a lot of glass

A hipped roof brings in a lot of light, and with the right choice of glass it stays pleasant under all that glass. We recommend triple glazing: it insulates better than HR++ in winter and keeps the temperature under the glass more even in summer. Facing south or west, you complete it with a solar control coating. More in light and cool under your roof lantern.

Glass, frame and delivery

HR++ double glazing is standard, triple glazing an option. Above a living area or workspace, safety glass to the relevant NEN standard is a sensible choice. The frame is thermally broken aluminium, in any RAL colour and also bicolour. You collect the roof lantern in Barneveld or have it delivered. Your own contractor fits it with our installation manual, or you choose our regular fitting partner on request.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about the Hipped roof lantern.

What does a hipped roof lantern cost?

Prices start at €3,481. Size, segmentation, glass and frame colour determine the final price. What a hipped roof lantern costs explains how it is built up.

Is a pyramid roof lantern the same as a hipped roof lantern?

Yes. On a square opening the four slopes meet in one point, and then it is called a pyramid roof lantern. On a rectangular opening a short ridge forms. Technically it is the same roof type.

Gable or hipped, which should I choose?

A gable gives light from two sides, a hipped roof from four. A hipped roof suits a square or wide opening best. The trade-off is set out in gable or hipped roof lantern.

Which glass do you recommend for a hipped roof?

Triple glazing, especially above a large open space. It insulates better than HR++ and keeps the temperature under the glass more even. HR++ is standard; in the quote we put both side by side.

Is a hipped roof suitable for a business space?

Yes. The even light makes it suitable for a studio, practice room or commercial building. For special applications we are happy to think along about size and glass.

What is the delivery time?

From 2 weeks after approval. For a large, segmented hipped roof or a specific glass choice it can go up to 8 weeks. The quote states the delivery time for your situation.
