The short answer

A 3 metre mono-pitch roof lantern is always in stock at DagLichtDesign. It is the largest stock size and suits a wide extension. We make a mono-pitch up to 5 metres without a glazing bar, so 3 metres is one clean glass pane.

Which room a 3 metre roof lantern suits

A 3 metre roof lantern brings a lot of daylight across the width of a room. That works well in an extension across the full width of a terraced house, or in a kitchen-diner where you want light above both the cooking area and the dining table.

As a mono-pitch roof lantern, it has one sloping pane with a standard pitch of 8°. A 3 metre mono-pitch needs no glazing bar, as that only comes into play above 5 metres.

  • Wide extension
  • Kitchen-diner with dining area
  • Garden room or conservatory
  • One glass pane without a glazing bar

Weight and fitting of a large stock size

A 3 metre roof lantern is a substantial unit. Glass with an insulating cavity and safety glass quickly weighs more than you think. Always fit it with several people or with lifting gear. The installation manual includes safety instructions for lifting and fitting.

To see how the upstand, sealing and connections work step by step, read the roof lantern installation manual. That way you know beforehand what your builder will do.

Choosing glass for 3 metres

The larger the glass area, the more sun comes in. Facing south or west, a room under 3 metres of glass can get quite warm on a summer's day. A solar control coating keeps part of the solar heat out. Read more under solar control glass in a roof lantern.

Facing north, HR++ is often more than enough, or you choose triple glazing for extra insulation. The quote shows HR++ and triple side by side, so you see the difference. With a large glass pane, the frame colour matters too: a dark frame in jet black or anthracite gives a crisp outline against the sky, while traffic white is less noticeable inside.

Larger than 3 metres

If your opening is wider than 3 metres, we make the roof lantern to measure. Up to 5 metres, that is still possible in one panel. See a 4 metre roof lantern for what that means. Whether a glazing bar on even larger sizes is a drawback is covered under with or without a glazing bar.

  • Up to 5 metres in one panel
  • Lead time for made to measure from 2 weeks
  • Complex projects up to 8 weeks

Frequently asked questions

Does a 3 metre roof lantern have a glazing bar?

No. We make a mono-pitch up to 5 metres wide in one panel without a glazing bar. At 3 metres you have one clean glass pane.

Is 3 metres too large to collect myself?

Collection in Barneveld is possible, but you need a suitable trailer and enough hands. If you would rather not, we deliver on an agreed date.

Will it get too hot under 3 metres of glass?

That depends on the orientation. Facing south or west, we recommend solar control glass or shading, and airing the room through a window or vent in the wall helps too. Facing north, it is usually not a problem.
