A roof lantern in Hoevelaken often replaces something that is already there: a yellowed plastic rooflight dome on the extension or garage. DagLichtDesign makes the new roof lantern to measure at the factory in Barneveld, about 18 km away. Your own contractor or builder installs it. Hoevelaken is part of the municipality of Nijkerk; the roof lantern Nijkerk page tells you more about the area.

Flat roofs from the years of expansion

In the second half of the last century, Hoevelaken grew from a village into a commuter town, partly thanks to its location next to the Hoevelaken interchange. Many terraced and semi-detached houses date from that time, often later extended with a flat-roofed extension or garage. Such a roof regularly has a rooflight dome that has turned dull after years of sun and insulates poorly.

A mono-pitch roof lantern is the logical successor. HR++ double glazing is standard and triple glazing optional. The difference in light and appearance is explained in roof lantern or rooflight dome.

  • More daylight than through a dull plastic dome
  • Watertight connection to EPDM or bitumen
  • Load-rated to NEN standards for snow and wind
  • Water drained via the frame profile to the existing gutter

Roof lantern Hoevelaken: what your contractor checks first

An existing flat roof can usually be used, provided the structure allows it. Your contractor or a structural engineer assesses the load-bearing capacity. Next comes the upstand: the raised kerb on which the roof lantern rests and to which the roof covering connects.

Every delivery includes an installation manual with connection details for EPDM, bitumen and zinc, and a step-by-step plan for upstand, insulation and sealing. For a quotation within 24 hours, the following is enough:

  • A photo of the roof and of the opening from inside
  • The approximate dimensions of the current opening
  • The type of roof covering: EPDM or bitumen
  • The frame colour you want, for example RAL 7016

Collection via the A1 or delivery

From Hoevelaken the factory is easy to reach via the A1; outside rush hour you are there in fifteen to twenty minutes. Collection is by appointment and with no delivery charge, delivery on a date that suits your contractor. Frequently asked questions

Will a roof lantern fit the opening of my old rooflight dome?

It can, but it does not have to. The roof lantern is made to measure, so the opening can also be made larger if the structure allows. Your contractor or structural engineer assesses that before you order.

Which glass should I choose above an extension in Hoevelaken?

HR++ double glazing is standard and more than enough for most living rooms and kitchens. Triple glazing is optional and mainly worthwhile above a bedroom or on an extension facing north or west. The quotation shows both options side by side.

Can I see the roof lantern before I order?

Yes, the workshop in Barneveld is open by appointment. You can see a finished profile and a glazing unit there. Call or email beforehand, as there is no showroom.
