An extension to a terraced house is often no wider than the house itself. For those sizes, a mono-pitch roof lantern of 1, 2 or 3 metres is ideal: they are always in stock, which keeps the lead time short. If your opening does not match a standard size, it is simply made to measure.

Against the rear wall of a mid-terrace house, a wall-abutting lean-to with a wall connection profile finishes the junction neatly. With brickwork, that comes with an EPDM lead replacement or zinc flashing.

Glass or polycarbonate

With a small extension it is tempting to go for cheap plastic sheets. Polycarbonate is light and cheap, but it can yellow and scratch over time and insulates less well than HR++ double glazing. You also hear the rain more on it. The comparison is under glass or polycarbonate for a roof lantern.

Glass is heavier, so have your builder check that the extension can carry it. With a new extension, that is usually already taken into account in the design.

From Wageningen to the workshop

Once your roof lantern is ready, you choose between collection and delivery. For a mono-pitch of 1 or 2 metres, a trailer or van is often enough to collect it yourself in Barneveld. Prefer delivery? Then you agree a date that suits your builder. They install the roof lantern with the printed and digital installation manual and can call with questions on weekdays between 7:00 and 17:00.
