The short answer

A mono-pitch roof lantern from DagLichtDesign costs from €1,532. It is the most popular type for an extension and also the most affordable, because it has only one glass pane. The price rises mainly with width, depth and glass choice.

Mono-pitch roof lantern cost and why

How much does a mono-pitch roof lantern cost? That is easiest to understand once you know how it is built. A mono-pitch roof lantern has one sloping glass pane that sits higher on one side than the other. There is no ridge, no hip profile and only one drainage side. That makes it simple to produce and therefore the entry model among our four roof types.

The starting price of €1,532 is the baseline. What a mono-pitch costs for your extension comes down to three things typical of this type: the width, the depth and whether a glazing bar is needed.

Width and glazing bars

Up to 5 metres wide, we make a mono-pitch in a single panel without a glazing bar. That gives a clean, uninterrupted glass surface. If your opening is wider, we fit one or more thermally broken bars. That means extra profiles and more glass edges, and therefore a higher price than the width alone would suggest.

Wondering whether a bar matters? Read the article on a roof lantern with or without a glazing bar. Sometimes a slightly narrower opening with one panel looks better and costs less.

  • Up to 5 metres wide in a single panel
  • Wider: one or more thermally broken glazing bars
  • Sizes of 1, 2 and 3 metres always in stock

The depth determines how much glass you buy

Every mono-pitch has a standard pitch of 8°. That is enough for good drainage, so rainwater and dirt run off the glass easily. At that gentle pitch, the glass pane is barely longer than the horizontal depth of the opening. The depth of your opening therefore counts almost one for one in the glass area, and so in the price.

Because the pitch is fixed, you do not need to decide anything about it. You send us the dimensions of the opening and we make the roof lantern to suit. Why a slight pitch is needed is explained under the right pitch for a roof lantern.

Glass, colour and stock sizes

HR++ double glazing is standard. Triple glazing, a solar control coating or obscure glass cost extra. The aluminium frame is thermally broken and optionally available in matt black or anthracite, or in any other RAL colour.

If your opening fits a stock size, nothing needs to be made to measure. Take the 2 metre mono-pitch roof lantern, for example. For a roof lantern on an extension, the mono-pitch is often the logical choice. How this type compares with the others is shown under how much a roof lantern costs.

  • HR++ as standard, triple as an option
  • Clear, obscure or solar control glass
  • Matt black, anthracite or any other RAL colour

Frequently asked questions

Is a mono-pitch cheaper than a gable roof lantern?

Yes, for a comparable opening. A mono-pitch has one glass pane and no ridge profile. A gable roof lantern starts from €2,399, a mono-pitch from €1,532.

What pitch does a mono-pitch roof lantern have?

A standard 8°. That pitch ensures good drainage, so rainwater and dirt run off the glass easily. You do not need to specify anything about it in your request.

Can a mono-pitch be 6 metres wide?

Yes, but above 5 metres a thermally broken glazing bar is added. You see that bar in the glass surface and it is reflected in the price. The quote shows exactly how the layout looks.
