A fair roof lantern price per m2 does not really exist. A large part of the price is in fixed components such as the frame, the profiles, the connection and sometimes the upstand, and those do not grow with the glass area. That is why we give from-prices per roof type, from €1,532 for a mono-pitch, and you get a quote for your size within 24 hours.
For an extension or a dormer, a price per square metre is a familiar rule of thumb. If you look for a roof lantern price per m2, you come across figures that say little. A roof lantern is not a roll of glass you cut off by the metre, but a complete product with a frame, profiles, seals and, for some types, an upstand. Those parts are always there, whether the roof lantern is 1 metre or 4 metres wide.
The result: a small roof lantern is relatively expensive per m² and a large one relatively economical. Apply the m² price of a large roof lantern to a small opening and you estimate too low. The other way round, you estimate too high.
Look at what is in every roof lantern, regardless of size. The thermally broken aluminium frame runs all the way round. With a wall-abutting lean-to, the upstand and connection profiles for the wall type are included. A gable has a ridge and a drainage system in the bottom rails, a hipped roof lantern has corner profiles and concealed drainage. That is work and material that does not rise in step with the glass. How this appears in a quote is explained in the price structure of a roof lantern.
There is another reason a price per m² is confusing. Does it refer to the opening in the roof, or to the glass? With a sloping roof lantern the glass surface is slightly larger than the opening. At DagLichtDesign every roof type has a standard pitch of 8°. So with a price per m², always ask which measurement it refers to. Read the right pitch for a roof lantern.
The glass itself also differs per m². HR++ is standard. Triple glazing, solar control glass and sound-insulating glass cost more. A price per m² without a glass specification therefore says little. The difference between the two insulating units is in triple glazing or HR++.
Compare quotes on content, not on a single figure. Check what each line includes. In our quotes HR++ and triple are shown side by side, with glass options, lead time and price. Installation is a separate line. An overview of total costs is in how much a roof lantern costs and per type, for example, in the price of a mono-pitch.
There is no fair fixed amount. Fixed components such as frame, profiles and connection make a small roof lantern more expensive per m² than a large one. We work with from-prices per type and a made-to-measure quote within 24 hours.
Because the fixed costs are spread over more glass. The frame runs all the way round and grows only slightly with the area. Above certain sizes, though, bars or segments are added, see with or without an intermediate bar.
Compare complete quotes for the same size, pitch and type of glass. Check whether the upstand, connection profiles and delivery are included. A lower price without those parts is often not cheaper.
