What a roof lantern on a commercial building costs depends on the number of roof lanterns, the size of each, the glass and extras such as solar control or sound-insulating glass. From-prices run from €1,532 for a mono-pitch to €3,481 for a hipped roof lantern. For large areas we help plan the layout, and contractors get trade prices from the first project.
For roof lantern commercial building cost, the first choice is how you distribute the daylight. One large roof lantern gives a strong accent of light, for example above a showroom or reception. Several smaller roof lanterns spread the light more evenly across a hall, open-plan office or practice room. Each roof lantern has its own upstand and connection, so the number of openings counts in the contractor's work.
Large sizes are quite possible. A mono-pitch goes up to 5 metres in one panel and wider with thermally broken bars. A gable roof lantern goes up to 6 metres long and 4 metres wide per roof surface as standard, larger in modules. A hipped roof lantern we make up to 9 m² of glass in one piece, and larger with segmentation and concealed bars.
In a workspace or practice you want a comfortable indoor climate, also under a large hipped roof lantern. Solar control glass helps against overheating in rooms where people work all day. Sound-insulating glass is an option for a building on a busy road.
Safety counts too. In a roof we use safety glass to NEN standard. Read more in safety glass and laminated glass.
A commercial roof is often large and high. Lifting large roof lanterns usually needs a crane or aerial platform, and fall protection is required on a flat roof during the work. Those are contractor costs, often charged per day or per deployment. Also read transporting and lifting a roof lantern.
For an existing building a structural engineer assesses whether the roof can carry the openings and the extra weight. A steel deck or a concrete roof needs a different approach from timber joists. Take that into account beforehand, so it does not come back as extra work.
Contractors get trade prices from the first project, with no threshold or minimum. With more than three projects per calendar year a partner discount is added, applied directly in every quote. For larger volumes we make additional arrangements. The lead time is from 2 weeks, up to 8 weeks for complex made-to-measure projects. For urgent build schedules a rush option is sometimes possible. Yes, provided the roof structure allows it. A structural engineer assesses the load-bearing capacity. For large areas we work with bars, segments or several roof lanterns. We are happy to help plan the layout.
